Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome is probably the most common cause of eye discomfort in California. The dry California weather causes tears to readily evaporate from the ocular surface and results in ocular burning and irritation. In addition, dry eyes syndrome can result in fluctuating vision. An insufficient tear film can predispose eyes to surface infections that can potentially be visually threatening. This threat of infection is particularly increased for patients that use contact lenses. There are a number of different treatments for dry eye syndrome that include the insertion of silicone or collagen tear plugs, artificial tear drops, and restasis eye drops.
