Toric IOL

The Toric Intraocular Lens (Toric IOL)
is one of the most exciting new development in cataract surgery today. Prior to the development of the toric intraocular lenses, there was no way of correcting corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery. Patient who had significant astigmatism on the surface of their eyes would almost certainly need glasses correction after cataract surgery in order to see clearly. Astigmatism means that the power is not distributed uniformly on the surface of the eye. The Toric IOL helps treat this surface irregularity. During cataract surgery, the surgeon aligns the Toric IOL in a fashion that helps compensate for the corneal astigmatism and allows patients with astigmatism on the surface of their eyes to have good vision after cataract surgery without glasses.
