The TECNIS® is a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) approved for use in the United States for cataract surgery. Traditional intraocular lenses focus light from one distance only. The TECNIS® multifocal IOL is designed with concentric rings of different powers to focus light from the distance as well as near objects.

The TECNIS® multifocal IOL uses concentric rings of different powers to focus light from the distance as well as the near. This is in contrast to traditional intraocular lenses that focus light only from one distance.

What are possible side-effects of having a TECNIS® multifocal iol?

Patients can experience some glare and haloes particularly at night after placement of TECNIS®. Also all the regular risks of cataract surgery apply to cataract surgery with the use of TECNIS®.
